Paws in Schools
Specially Trained Animals for any School Environment
Paws in Schools Overview
Therapy animals in a school setting can contribute towards improving the overall wellbeing of students. Many children and teenagers naturally enjoy interacting with animals and are therefore likely to respond positively to animal therapy.
Our specialised educators recognise that each school setting is unique and has its own set of guiding principles, philosophies and values. Paws in Schools (by Therapy Animals Australia) specialises in tailoring programs to suit specific needs.
Therapy Animals Australia will work closely with you to explore possible applications, then design and implement a program that best matches your school’s specific needs.
How it Works…
Paws in Schools Programs…
Guided Animal Therapy Sessions
Emotional support. Develop emotional regulation skills. Positive education. General wellbeing. Coping strategies. Develop social skills. Mindfulness & growth mindsets.
More than just spending time with lovely animals, specific goals are identified and set (with teachers and/or parents) in order to best meet the unique needs of the selected individuals or small groups.
Ideal for all students and for students who need…
Having a set task is an important part of each therapy session, in order for participants to feel a sense of achievement. It may be feeding animals, making a toy for an animal to play with, or assisting handlers with the training of one of the animals.
Intervention Sessions & Programs
A low pressure, relaxed environment with animals.
Add fun & excitement and help make intervention sessions seem less taxing by including a therapy animal. There’s no judgement from the animals and therefore less pressure.
Ideal for students in need of literacy & numeracy assistance…
Designed to meet the needs of the individual, a reliable well-trained animal is crucial to the success of these sessions.
We can bring our animals to you, or help you to set up your program, including sourcing and facilitating the training of animals for your school setting.
A “Hands On” Approach to Learning.
Having animals in your school provides endless opportunities to teach Science concepts in real and meaningful ways, as well as providing possibilities to work on special projects and S.T.E.A.M activities.
